Here's an interesting one: he's intellectually curious (having written on subjects from snakes to astronomy), a medical doctor, and a close friend of Ben Franklin's (they even worked together on electrical experiments). His Friends say he has "a language and manner that might be considered abrupt," but that he has "much good humor and pleasantry in his character." By the way, he's the only delegate I know that's written about his belief in extra-terrestrial life.
