This is
in response to your letter of November
20, 1978.
The last thing I want to do is deprive the citizens of District Eight of their necessary representation before our Board of Supervisors. As I told you this past Saturday in my office, however, I have received a great many communications from the residents of District Eight-some from your public opponents, others from your past supporters-which have urged me not to reappoint you to the Board of Supervisors. As I informed you this past Saturday, I am going to take an additional week in which to review this situation, and to receive further communications on the subject from the citizens of District Eight, some of which may conceivably benefit you. But I must reiterate that I have not made a commitment of any kind to appoint you-or any other San Franciscan-to the position of Supervisor from District Eight. Sincerely,
